Truly an instance of right-place, right-time, Ellen Boyle found herself starting her first library job at the Wilmington Memorial Library in August 2020. She received a B.S. in Television Production from Hofstra University and a M.Ed. in Higher Education from Merrimack College. Studying Higher Education allowed Ellen to grow passionate about environments that cultivate innovation, community, opportunity, and access, and it became apparent that a library would be the perfect place to bring her marketing and communications skills. Ellen loves helping patrons discover the wide expanse of resources and technology available at the library. She is looking forward to learning new and creative ways to target and cater directly to patrons’ needs.

Graduate Assistant in Information Literacy and Reference


Carly Jessup is a student at the University of Kentucky pursuing her Master’s in Library Science. Additionally, she works as a Graduate Assistant in Reference and Information Literacy at UK Libraries. Carly enjoys researching social media in libraries as well as creating social media content and recently completed her GA project on a Marketing Campaign for UK Libraries Virtual Reference. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a career in academic librarianship. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and traveling.

Business Manager


Samantha Rusk is the Business Manager at the Vespasian Warner Public Library District in Clinton, Illinois, with a patron population of 12,000. She has served in her role for just over three years and is responsible for the library’s marketing, finances, facilities operations, and grant writing. Like many other library professionals, Samantha wears numerous hats in her position and is always looking for new tools to improve marketing efficiency and effectiveness. Samantha is looking forward to attending LMCC21 to learn new strategies for reaching the library’s vision of Connecting People, Sharing Knowledge, and Enabling Life-Long Learning. She also hopes to generate new ideas for reaching members of her community that are not currently library users.

Associate Dean and Program Lead: Communications and Outreach


As a member of the University of New Hampshire’s Library leadership team, Kimberly Sweetman coordinates library services, collections, and technology initiatives and translates library vision and goals into daily processes and operations for the University of New Hampshire Library.  As part of a newly implemented organizational structure, Kimberly is also responsible for documenting and communicating the UNH Library’s value through the coordination of a new Communications and Outreach program. Prior to her time at UNH, Kimberly managed a large public services department at New York University, one of the largest research libraries in North America, and most recently worked as an executive coach and consultant, helping libraries improve productivity and develop superior service through exceptional leadership.

Head of Public Relations and Marketing


Lyanne Valdez is an award-winning journalist and currently the Head of Public Relations & Marketing for Duluth Public Libraries in Duluth, Minnesota. Lyanne graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2017. She uses her strong media, communication, and organizational skills to promote the hard work libraries do day in and day out to ensure everyone has access to creative and cultural materials and services. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their three-year-old daughter.
